There are fewer than 10 sports neurology fellowship programs in the country. The Hartford HealthCare Sports Neurology Fellowship Program is the only one in the Northeast.
Our mission is to train sports neurologists using a comprehensive curriculum and expand the field globally to meet well-established community needs.
The main objective of Hartford HealthCare Sports Neurology Fellowship is to help fellows develop expertise in the recognition, diagnosis, treatment, management and rehabilitation of outpatient sports neurology conditions, and gain experience with live coverage of sports events.
The Hartford HealthCare Sports Neurology Fellowship accepts one fellow for a 12-month program beginning July 1.
Unique Components Include:
- Varied lecture series such as weekly neurology grand rounds, monthly joint conference with other sports neurology programs, weekly didactics with journal club, and a bi-weekly headache lecture series in partnership with the Hartford HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute Headache Center.
- Unmatched clinical experience through live coverage on sidelines, ringside, in arenas and other settings, as well as through rotations in neurotology, physical therapy, headache, pain management, neurosurgery, primary care sports medicine and orthopedic sports medicine.
- Clinical experience with diverse central and peripheral neurologic conditions in an active population. This ranges from youth athletes to elderly and from performers and athletes to weekend warriors and business executives.
- Research opportunities and mentorship from our faculty.
- Protected time and resources for professional growth including attendance at national and regional conferences to present research.
- Participation in our monthly Sports Health Council where members meet and collaborate on patient care and updates in research across all disciplines of sports medicine within Hartford HealthCare.
Requirements
Residency Training
Applicants must have successfully completed residency in either child or adult neurology.
Year of Graduation
Residency graduation must be within two years of fellowship application.
International Medical Graduates
Our program welcomes international medical graduates who hold a valid ECFMG certificate.
Visas: (if applicable)
Hartford Hospital only sponsors the J-1 visa for those candidates who are not permanent residents or US citizens.
USMLE Exams
You must pass USMLE parts 1, 2 and 3 to apply.

For the application, we request a personal statement outlining your career goals and interest in pursuing a fellowship with us, a minimum of three letters of recommendation from residency training faculty, a copy of your curriculum vitae with recent photograph, and a completed application form using the link below. Applications are to be submitted no later than April for the following academic year.
